So bad at posting!!!

Its MarieAnn here, not Ruth who appears to be worse at posting altogether!

Just dropping in really to say that i'm back at uni. thats the boring part!

Been to a few shows i thought i should share.

Flashdance was in January and fully deserves its own blog of awesomeness. Every person in the cast and crew were part of an amazing show that people are still confused about how it closed...

I had only seen 2 show and a concert in the first 3 months of being in London, Wicked - obligatory yet still awesome, Sister Act which was seriously disappointing (pointing no fingers in patinas direction) and En Vogue who where spectacular!!!

So theatre, although I love acting was not getting the love from me.

My Flashdance story starts 3 years ago. March 2008 or thereabouts Flashdance came to the Grand Opera House, I was in a serious downer of a mood (broken heart anyone) well anyway my friends went and I stayed at home (I know anyone who saw the tour is screaming at the screen 'Why!!') I forgot about this until I went home and my friend reminded me about how she sent her conservative parents BEFORE she went to vet the show and she was mortifyed when she went and saw the pole dancing scene haha

I missed out there! and also during previews I suggested Flashdance, they suggested Wicked :( Then they went to Flashdance later without me and didnt want to go again (shock!! seriously shock)

Finally my theatre loving friend Becka who had seen Flashdance several times and loved it invited me and Emmanuel to go see it Monday of closing week. Well I'll be damned, it was awesome!! When I love something, I really love it and I was gazing at EVERYONE on the stage with doe eyes, I couldnt believe this show was closing! It was a rollercoaster of a show with awesome choreography courtesy of Arlene Phillips, singing by Twinnie Lee Moore, Charlotte Harwood and Hannah Levane (who are all so talented!!) and amazing emsemble and supporting cast. All this was held together by this tiny little firecracker Victoria Hamilton-Barritt.

Well I was sold, on every member of the cast and emsemble..they were just dynamite on stage! Becka took us round to stage door to say hello to the cast. As I had never done this before I thought it was a bit odd. There were a few other people there. So when Victoria came out and we went to tell her how awesome it was I stood there like a numpty lol. I gotta a picture -BONUS but since I fail at most things in life I said to her 'I feel wick' which translating from Northern Irish is 'I'm embarrassed' Why I said that I have no idea but I'm pretty sure she had no idea what I said!

I convinced Emmanuel to come to the show the next day as well! which he did...and again we were enchanted! As we were by ourselves we were a bit more confident at Stage Door and Emmanuel talked to Victoria about Urdang, she was so lovely and helpful (even tho I keep deadpanning Emman when he said what he'd done and I kept saying 'I havent'...)

Not content on 2 shows and knowing this was our last chance to see it, we invited our friend Jade to see it on Thursday cuz I had to work on the Wednesday! bummer!

Emman was dead set on meeting Charlotte after and she didnt disappoint. After being awesome on stage, she was even more awesome off. Rocking an awesome 'bright strawberry blond' (i dont know what to say really that isnt ginger) do! So chatty and lovely! Wanted to say Hi to Victoria again (being the geeks that we are) we hung around til she finished with everyone else, not good at stopping people yet, which is surprising seeing as I used to work with childrens charities in Australia and stopped people everyday. She came over and we chatted and I dont think I embarrassed myself!! whoop whoop! I think walked up the road tho we almost got hit by a car so that was an extra excitement!

I had to work on Friday (for my sins) so cudnt go to the muck up matinee which I heard was amazing! I heard rumors of camp outs so I dropped by the theatre on the way to the nightbus...AND THERE WAS LIKE 10 PEOPLE THERE! I was planning to go home and come back at 6am. this was 1am and I panicked..so I decided to stay! it was so random, but worth it. Got a ticket for the matinee and the final show! (emotional times)

I had to race home and get ready and since I live in Timbucktoo I barely made it back in time! I even got a cab from half way between Holborn station and the theatre...i know i know! I went hurtling down the aisle into my seat with moments to spare, prob being really loud and causing a commotion haha there were a few muckups in this matinee but since it was Twinnies last show, it was pretty tame.
managed to say well done to Twinnie afterwards, I'm getting rather good at this stage door business now haha, well thats a lie...most shows I prob wont SD.

The final show was crazy, I was sitting away from my friends and not feeling the love from the 'fans' beside me...thanks guys

Once the show started I didnt care, I was trying to soak it all in before it finished. It was going SO fast, and as with every show that week I had seen was performed awesomely, I was a bit of a mess by the end...during curtain call trying to dance wasnt working for me and i'm sure my face gave it away! Its just not fair *stamps foot then throws herself on floor and wails like a toddler

So after that, I gave shows a rest but I did discover Kinky Kabaret which is awesome. Then I found out Hannah was gonna be performing there -BONUS!!

The Whats on Stage awards where coming up and I hadnt been able to get a ticket so was on the reserve list. Hannah was performing there too along with some other awesomw westend and broadway stars!

Before the Wossys tho I managed to go to Shoes, the musical. Which is about...shoes funnily enough. The dancing was amazing and I loved noticing little reminders of other shows like Flashdance though I dont think this was intentional! but loved!

Then the Wossys, I managed to get a ticket at the LAST minute (6pm) and had to RACE to the theatre. impressively I made it!!! What a night?!! Hannah was amazing in every performance! Although when Sheridan won I could have been a little happier for her, I sat and did the slow clap for exactly 5 claps then gave up! Flashdance was a better show than most shows on Westend...and the cast esp Victoria more talented (this coming from me who has seen like 4 shows haha)

Kinky was very exciting as Hannah was performing there too! A real Hannah week and wasnt it awesome! She was so amazing!!! loved it!

The last thing I have just seen was Julie Atherton in Concert. As a poor student I had to decide what to I could afford after seeing Shoes and WOS, I wish I'd skipped Shoes tho and saw Ordinary Days as well! Maybe I'll go this week since its nearly finished its run :(

The reason for the excitment about this concert amongst FD fans was the wonderful Victoria Hamilton-Barritt. She had been announced as a guest star and people were excited to see her not playing a role. This was also my first experience of Julie and she was soo funny and amazingly talented!!! Victoria was amazing, pure class and a real individual performer.

Seeing her afterwards was lovely as I am less embarrassed now and I am pretty sure she can understand what I'm saying! LOL

So that has been 2011 so far and the Flashdance cast deserve all the credit in inspiring me not to give up on my career aspirations! :)

hopefully I will remember to post again before 2012 and maybe we'll hear from Ruth too as to whats happening in Northern Ireland!!

Last Night - Brixton Plan B

So I went up to Brixton last night to see one our lecturers do some 'breaking'. I kinda knew what this was from your typical dance films like Step Up etc and watching Britains Got Talent once. I have always preferred contemporary dance but I have been starved of decent dance since I came to London because I am a bore and work TOO much!

I was invited in my class yesterday and seeing as I had no other plans and everyone seemed lovely I thought I would go, 'for the craic'. Met a girl from Newcastle, NI (Sheena) just down the road from Belfast. That pleased me muchly :) I of course came with everything including the kitchen sink as I had yet to go home after class finished and luckily there was a cloakroom (this may seem irrelevant but I always wonder if theres a cloakroom, I DETEST carrying my stuff!). When I deposited my things for a fee of £1 each I took the 'free hug' that was on offer and it was AMAZING! I am a hugger unashamedly!!!

On to the dancing, well it was kinda of going on as I got in about 10:30 with people warming up and busting a few moves! It was hard to get a place to see properly as their were SO many people there! My lecturer Mary and some other lecturer from the dance department where competing in the 2 0n 2 B boy breaking...I think LOL who knows. But it was amazing, the skills those guys have is just nuts!!! I was very impressed! Breaking is a crazy sport ( I say sport because its HEAVY like these guys are FIT!!)

Then there was 7 to Smoke (?) Waaking (??) which to me looked like Vogueing a little bit and I LOVED IT! Think I might take a class is this awesome!

Busted a few moves then decided I was busted so headed back to campus for my 9am start. Got home at 3:30am and prob to sleep after 4am! check out how I did in class here at my class blog: http://themarieanno.wordpress.com/

we met in college 2 years ago.......fade to dream....(lol)

sandra (or sylvia, whichever she's not picky) was teaching a rather boring private secretarys diploma class part-time on a thurs! marieann was sitting at the back, keeping herself to herself as usual(or actually i think i was sitting in the middle chatting to a girl i knew from school) but anyway....a girl came in(she mustve been late, cuz marieann is rarely on time and she was there first) and looked around for a seat! then a light, as if shining from heaven shone on an amazing looking girl( haha...my blog..i can dream!) motioning her to come join her! it was marieann! and that was it! over a computer screen, CARROT CAKE and sylvia these to amazing ladies joined forces as friends! now unfortunately for marieann, ruth was studying 2 nights a week and finished the course b4 her, leaving her to study by herself! but the friendship survived! much to the excitement of the 2 friends!

where are we now!

well 2 years later, ruth is legal, marieann is single, and planning an epic adventure around the world! in 2 years time! together!!
